Pet owners would do anything to take care of their pets. They feel like they are their family and would do anything for them. Whenever they are sick, they send them to the vet or when they are sad the make sure they are giving enough love and attention to them. Also, whenever they get in trouble they are ready to help them.
What a man did recently shows just how much love pets get from their owners when he umped off the bridge to save his dog.
He says that what he did is so normal since it was what he had to do. It was not a heroic act or anything like that as some people are referring to it. He strongly believes that if something of the sort happened to him, his dog would do the same.
The whole thing happened when Al Trovigner and his family were waiting in traffic on the Bayway. The dog probably got impatient and jumped off a nearby bridge. Trovinger was shocked and couldn’t believe what actually happened.
He explains the situation as follows:
“We’d been on the Bayway for about 30 minutes and decided that we need to get out and let the dog walk around. As soon as we did we put her on a leash, she jumped over.”
The moment that the dog fell into the water below, she started to swim but it was obvious that she needed help. She looked scared and could barely keep her head above the water. Trovigner goes on explaining:
“We kept on looking at her could tell she was getting a little desperate finally there was nothing else we could do; she was either going to drown or someone was going jump off and get her, so I jumped off.”
Trovigner managed to reach the dog and save her. It wasn’t easy to swim with her and he didn’t think that he would be able to rescue her.
He continued on to say that: “For the first couple minutes it was tough, but once I kind of got the right stroke and she was getting a little calmer, it was fine.”
The moment the dog was calm, he felt that he had the situation under his control and felt more confident about saving the dog. He added:
“I felt confident that I could swim. I could see the distance and I knew I could swim the distance.
The other people who saw him also tried to help him. One person threw a dog vest to Trovigner but it didn’t fit the dog. Eventually, he was able to swim with her over to the boat ramp and managed to get them both to the shore. The EMS was also waiting to give the proper treatment to them.
Trovigner doesn’t regret jumping off the bridge to save his dog. In the contrary, when asked if he would do the same thing again, he responded: “Yeah, yeah, as long as I didn’t die.”
Although most dogs can swim, they cannot do it for a very long time. The dog probably thought that the water was much closer than it really was but when that wasn’t the case, she probably freaked out and was very scared.
She may have started swimming out of her instinct but she probably had no idea of where to go and how to get out of the water. Eventually the dog would get exhausted and then drown.
While some may think that what Trovigner did may seem a bit crazy, a lot of pet owners can relate to what he did.
Hopefully the same situation will never happen again and keep their dog safe from the dangerous spots. The family and the dog are thankfully fine and safe now.
